MuscleTech
is a supplement company and is popular in the bodybuilding world.
Some top pro bodybuilders like Jay Cutler(4-Time Mr Olympia) and
Branch Warren(Mr Olympia Runner-Up) are sponsored by MuscleTech.
MuscleTech has released several products including Mass-Tech,
Cell-Tech and Nano Vapor amongst others. One of the products which
I have used before with success is Mass-Tech
so I can vouch of its effectiveness and recommend it. Mass-Tech
is primarily a weight gainer and it will build muscles plus a
bit of fat as well. It's inevitable to gain some fat when you're
bulking up. So if you're the skinny type of guy or gal, weight
gain supplements like MuscleTech Mass-Tech will help you make
some fast weight gain but consistency is key to get results.
When
to use Mass-Tech?
I
think the best time to use Mass-Tech is post workout when your
muscles are depleted and your body is hungry for nutrients. During
this critical time, your body will be in catabolic mode that is
losing muscles. You'll need a high dose of calories comprising
of fast-acting carbs and whey protein to replenish lost glycogen
stores and repair damaged muscle tissues. The post workout nutrition
is key to put your body back in anabolic mode that is gaining
muscles. A liquid meal is advised for post workout for faster
digestion. If you skip your post workout meal, all your efforts
in the gym will be in vain. If you don't have time to prepare
all your meals for the day, you can add Mass-Tech as a replacement
meal. It can also be used in between meals.
What's
the downside about Mass-Tech?
The
downside is you can finish a tub of Mass-Tech
pretty fast considering the dosage they give you which is 5 scoops
per serving. And mind you, the scoop is quite big. At 5 scoops,
you get 860 calories of which 155 grams come from carbs, 53 grams
from protein, 5 grams from sugar, 3 grams from fat(of which 2
grams saturated fats), 4 grams from dietary fiber and you get
several vitamins like vitamin A, C, B12, B6, D3, E, Thiamin, Riboflavin
amongst others. But one good thing I like about this product is
it's quite low in fats and sugars.
What
you should know about Mass-Tech Pro Proprietary Blend?
A
major plus with Mass-Tech is the Mass-Tech Pro Proprietary Blend
which has 10,370 mg consisting of Creatine Monohydrate, Taurine,
L-Glutamine, L-Arginine and others. So that's a bit more than
10 grams for 5 scoops of serving. One thing you need to know about
proprietary blend is you won't get the best in these "all
in 1" type products like Mass-Tech.
Probably in the 10 grams, only 1-2 grams might come from Creatine
Monohydrate or L-Arginine or L-Glutamine which isn't enough if
your goal is to use these ingredients in your muscle building
goals. To get more benefits, you'll need a higher dosage like
3-5 grams. So relying on Mass-Tech alone for these ingredients
will not yield desired results. It's better you get a separate
Creatine Monohydrate like Optimum
Nutrition Micronized Creatine for instance which you can
add in your post workout shake. It's important to drink lots of
water when taking creatine.
How
many scoops of Mass-Tech are really recommended?
A
5 Lbs tub can give 10 servings at 5 scoops per serving. To resume,
you can have 50 servings in all in one tub of 5 Lbs. But just
using 1 scoop post workout is not enough. If you calculate the
amount of protein and carbs pro rata, with just 1 scoop, that's
only 10.6 grams of protein(53/5) and 31 grams of carbs(155/5).
You will need at least 2 or 3 scoops to get 21.2 or 31.8 grams
of protein and 62 or 93 grams of carbs. I think this the ideal
serving dosage. The 5 scoops is simply too much and it will make
your shake rather thick and you will need to add too much liquid
to mix it all up. If you consider earlier I mentioned in 5 scoops
you get 10 grams of proprietary blend which in itself is not that
much, well you'll get even less with just 2-3 scoops. So that
makes the proprietary blend quite ineffective at this point.
How
to use Mass-Tech effectively?
There
is a way you can use Mass-Tech so that your tub can last longer.
You can even add other protein supplements like BSN
Syntha 6 in it to top up your protein intake. I use the
strawberry flavor Mass-Tech and it tastes quite good. Here are
some examples how you can use Mass-Tech alone or with other products
post workout.
(1)
Mix 3 scoops of Mass-Tech
with 24 oz of water and some ice cubes. Add a rounded teaspoon
of 5 grams of Optimum
Nutrition Micronized Creatine. Mix everything in a blender
and have a powerful recovery shake.
(2)
Mix 2 scoops of Mass-Tech + 1 scoop of BSN Syntha 6 with 20 oz
of water and some ice cubes. Add a rounded teaspoon of 5 grams
of Optimum Nutrition Micronized Creatine. Mix everything in a
blender and have a powerful recovery shake. BSN
Syntha 6 has a blend of fast digesting proteins like whey
isolate and whey concentrate and slow digesting proteins like
micellar casein, calcium caseinate and egg albumin in it. This
product gets mixed reviews as to its effectiveness in a post workout
shake where generally fast-acting proteins are advisable. But
in my honest opinion, a blend of proteins can work equally well
as it promotes a sustained release of amino acids to your muscles
and stimulating anabolism as well as metabolism.

Other alternative protein supplements that you can use apart
BSN Syntha 6 include Dymatize
Elite Whey Protein Isolate and Dymatize
Elite Fusion 7.
The first one is primarily whey isolates for faster utilization
by muscle cells whereas the second one is similar to Syntha
6 and it has a blend of 7 proteins. |
Can
you rely on Mass-Tech alone?
Relying
on Mass-Tech alone to gain muscle weight is not a good idea but
it will definitely give you an edge in adding muscle mass to your
body frame when used consistently. Like the name says, supplements
are just that. They will just supplement your existing meals and
not replace them. Your main focus should be on muscle building
and nutritious foods and eat 6-8 solid small meals every 2-3 hours
every day. If you don't get your nutrition right, weight gain
supplements like MuscleTech Mass-Tech won't produce miracles for
fast weight gain.
