Weight
gainers have been around for quite awhile now. But are weight
gainers worth it? I have to admit that they do produce results
provided you follow a proper nutrition routine which allow you
to pack on muscle and fat weight. While bulking up, it's inevitable
to gain some fats too as you'll be loading up the calories.
Skinny
people who want to bulk up usually have recourse to commercial
weight gainers as they think it's the fastest way to become bigger.
But these weight gainers are not cheap and can be used up in just
a few days if you follow the instructions exactly. Weight gainers
should not be taken several times per day. It's overuse and not
necessary, only once or twice should be ok. It can also be used
for post-workout as it also contains whey protein and a lot of
carbs.
Post-workout
is a time your body is hungry and craving for protein, carbs and
nutrients to replenish lost electrolytes, glycogen stores and
to repair and rebuild your muscles so weight gainers can easily
fit in for that job. But some people avoid weight gainers post-workout
since they also have fats and in their opinion, fats delay the
absorption of protein in the muscles. There is actually quite
a debate in muscle building forums on this issue.
Instead
of using commercial weight gainers, you can also make your own
homemade weight gain shakes which I recommend as it's more economical
and healthier too since you choose what ingredients to put in.
Everything is fresh. You can put a lot of things in a weight gainer
like raw oats, whole milk, bananas, blueberries, strawberries,
full-fat yogurt, good spoonfuls of natural peanut butter, some
ice cubes, flaxseed oil, honey and a whey protein isolate like
Optimum
Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard, Double Rich Chocolate, 5 Pound
.
The great thing with a whey protein isolate is you don't need
to use 4-5 scoops as compared with a commercial weight gainer.
Just 1 scoop is enough so your protein powder tub will last much
longer. The other ingredients like peanut butter, full-fat yogurt,
flaxseed oil and whole milk will load up the calories. Mix everything
in a blender and you have a powerful weight gainer shake. You
can have this shake for breakfast easily to start your day as
it's very nutrient-dense, nutritious and nourishing. You have
everything like protein, carbs, healthy fats, vitamins, dietary
fiber, calcium.
Having said all that, using commercial weight gainers at times
can be handy, convenient and fast to prepare so it's a worthwhile
investment. A very effective weight gainer is Optimum Nutrition
Pro Complex Gainer, it really works to add lean muscle mass thanks
to the great amount of protein per serving and 650 quality calories.

Weight gainers can be a fast way to add slabs of muscle mass and
overall weight to your weak frame in several weeks but a consistent
nutrition is also essential as relying on weight gainers alone
to the detriment of whole foods won't do it in the long run.
