Pull-ups
and dips are some of my favorite bodyweight strength training
exercises and what I really like about them is that they are compound
exercises meaning they work several muscle groups at once in a
single movement. If you want to build muscle mass fast, you should
focus on compound exercises, you will be amazed how with just
your own bodyweight, you can build an impressive physique.
Pull-ups
are primarily a back exercise and work the upper lats, lower lats,
trapezius, rhomboids(middle back), shoulders, biceps, forearms
and certain muscle groups can be emphasized more depending whether
you do it wide grip or close grip. For example if you perform
wide grip pull-ups you'll target more the upper lats whereas the
close grip pull-ups will focus more on the lower lats.
Dips
are also a fantastic exercise and work the pectorals(chest muscles),
triceps and shoulders. If you keep your body straight, you'll
target more the triceps whereas if you lean your body forward
a bit like 45 degrees, you will lay more emphasis on your pectorals.
While
using a pull-up bar and dip stand at home is pretty nice, there
